Screw Terminal Connectors FAQ
Q: What are the advantages of solderless connectors?
- No soldering required.
- Install LED strip lights in seconds.
- Easily attach an additional strip to the run of lights.
- Easy to connect and disconnect.
Q: What is the amperage limit of the connectors?
The screw terminal connectors have an amperage limit of 6 amps except for the corner connector which can only handle 3.5 amps in total.
Q: Can I load the connectors with more than the specified amperage limit?
It is not advisable to overload the connectors as this could result in future damage to the connectors and your setup.
Q: Which connector should I use to turn a corner?
The corner screw terminal connector with no wire (ST-2-CRN-10-0) is the best solution for 90 degree turns or corners.
Q: Can I use the connector to make jumps?
Yes, you can use the connectors with no wire (ST-2-C-10-0) to jump from one strip to another by placing low voltage wire between the connectors. Depending on the series of LEDs you are working with and the length you intend to run the wire, you would need to factor in voltage drop. It is recommended to consult with a qualified electrician which wire gauge would work best for your setup. The connectors can fit 22 AWG to 16 AWG.
Q: Are these connectors a better option than soldering directly to the LED strip?
We always suggest soldering as the best option for a long term solution. Sometimes the connectors can be bumped or knocked off. In high vibration areas, it may cause the connector to come loose from the strip. Soldering is better if your soldering skills are great since the solder pads are very small and the solder joints cannot touch.
Q: What do I do If my lights are not lighting up?
1. Make sure you follow the positive (+) and negative (-) markings on the strip to indicate which colored wire will be positive and which will be assigned negative.
2. Ensure the screws are tightened all the way. If the strip slips out of the connector it is not secured all the way. Be gentle.
3. Check your power supply and make sure it is hooked up correctly. The V+ and V- markings on the LED driver are correctly aligned with the positive (+) and negative (-) markings on the LED strips.
