Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main differences between the Zurik® EMLV Drivers and the Zurik® Universal Drivers?
In terms of performance there are not many differences: they both have a very high power factor that makes them very efficient, and they both have a wide input voltage range (100-277 VAC (110-277 VAC for the 200W and 300W versions). However, the main advantage of the Zurik® Universal Drivers is that it has all the functionalities of the EMLV Driver (so it’s compatible with MLV, ELV and TRIAC dimmers), but it also offers other dimming functionalities such as 0-10V and 1-10V dimming, Potentiometer, and 10V PWM dimming.
Can I wire together multiple outputs on the multi-tap versions of this driver?
No, please do not wire multiple taps together. The multiple taps on this driver should be considered as independent drivers in one unit, so please avoid that.
What is a Class 2 driver?
An LED driver that is listed as Class 2 complies with UL standard UL1310, thus indicating that its energy output is safe to touch with no major safety protection required. Some models of our Zurik® Universal Dimmable LED Driver are listed as Class 2, and they will minimize risk of fire or electrical shock at the LED strip level when operating at under 60W for 12V systems or under 100W for 24V systems per the National Electrical Code. This limits the amount of LED strip lights that you can run from a single driver, but some of our Class 2 Zurik® Universal Dimmable LED Drivers are multi-output drivers, that allow you to power a larger amount of LED strip lights from a single driver -up to 384W in some cases, all while complying with Class 2 standards.
The following models are Class 2:
- ZRK-UNV-30W-12VDC
- ZRK-UNV-30W-24VDC
- ZRK-UNV-60W-12VDC
- ZRK-UNV-60W-24VDC
- ZRK-UNV-96W-24VDC
- ZRK-UNV-C300W-12VDC (Multi-output)
- ZRK-UNV-C192W-24VDC (Multi-output)
- ZRK-UNV-C384W-24VDC (Multi-output)
What do all those new dimming options mean?
0/1-10V dimming means that you can use a dimmer to alter the control signal of the dimming wires and change the brightness. There are two Dim lines on this type of drivers (Dim (+) and Dim (-)), and they carry a 10V signal that directly controls brightness. 0-10V dimming go from 5% to 100% brightness, while 1-10V dimmers go from 10% to 100%.
On the other hand, a potentiometer dimming mechanism refers to using a 100K Ohm potentiometer, which is a resistor that is attached to the dimming wire, and it’s a cost-effective, no-frills solution. Last but not least, 10V PWM dimming means that a PWM signal created by a switch or a control can be used to dim the driver using the dimming wires.
The dimmer I want to use is not on the compatibility list, does that mean it won’t work?
The dimmers on the list have been tested and are going to work with our Zurik® Universal Driver; however, this doesn’t mean that you can’t use a different dimmer. You can test your dimmer with our products if they work with one of the advertised protocols, but we cannot guarantee 100% compatibility.
What does the “Auto Circuit Protection” mean?
Auto Circuit protection is an automatic recovery breaker inside the transformer. This means that for safety, if the unit detects overheating, overloading or short circuits that affect the proper functioning of the system the internal breaker will trip cutting off power and will automatically trip back once the fault has been removed.
Can I install this driver outdoors?
This driver is IP66 rated, which means it’s protected against powerful jets of water and is therefore rated for general outdoor use, but you should always check with your local electrician as your specific area may require the use of an additional junction box or enclosure.
